Grant Morris is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation (Wolf Clan), raised in Oklahoma, at the cross roads of the Osage, Muscogee Creek and Cherokee Nations. He now resides in the Front Range near Manitou Springs, CO. He is primarily a wood sculptor, but he also works with rock and creates traditional Native American weapons. Grant is an award winning self taught artist; receiving awards in sculpture, weaponry and diverse arts. He received a Masters Degree from Texas Christian University. His free time is spent enjoying the outdoors, often collecting the materials used in his art.
As Grant hikes, he looks for and collects interesting pieces of wood; often not yet visualizing what they will become. He only uses fallen and dead trees that he legally obtains. It is important to him to bring out the natural beauty and spirit within the wood. Creations are not forced; allowing nature to participate, if not dominate the art. Although he looks for traditional Cherokee and Native American themes, the wood ultimately guides the creation. “Eventually, the wood will let me know what it wants to be and that is when the journey to bring the dead wood back to life begins”.

I’ve been a part-time 2D artist my entire life, but shifted to scupture when I moved to the mountains of Colorado. Upon my retirement, I became a full-time artist. I take pride in collecting the materials used in my art, similar to how my ancestors would have. This is especialy important to me, when I’m creating tradtional weapons and other cultural art.
I’m a life-long and continuing student of Native American cultures, traditions and methods. You will find Cherokee and Native American themes in my art, when they present themselves to me in the wood and rocks I collect. Connecting to my Cherokee Heritage through my art is of great importance to me.
You will find my art in several galleries in the Colorado Springs area as well as Spyder Gallery in Tahlequah. Art procured by the Cherokee Nation can also be found in Cherokee Nation public buildings. My art is in personal collections around the world. I’ve been the featured artist at several shows in the Colorado Springs area. I began competing in Native American juried shows in 2023, an received immediate recognition, to include 9 awards in 2025; 1st and 2nd at Santa Fe Indian Market.
